When Seattle educators voted to strike earlier this year, Kshama was an immediate and outspoken advocate. “From day one, Kshama stood with teachers holding the line to defend public education,” said Garfield teacher and activist Jesse Hagopain, “Her presence on the picket line and her leadership in passing a City Council resolution supporting our strike made all of us feel she had our back.”
Kshama used every avenue she could to support the courageous striking teachers, including holding a community meeting in City Council chambers to build support for the strike, leading the way on a City Council resolution, and donating twice from her Solidarity Fund to help in their fight to defend public education.
The Seattle Education Association today recognized her uncompromising support with their sole City Council endorsement.
Congratulations to all SEA educators on their tremendous strike! We will stand in solidarity with Seattle teachers continuing their struggle for quality education for all.
